Apply a query, category, and limit

Decide whether you want name-based matching or category browsing. For a name search, enter a nonempty word or phrase in the query field. The tool trims the query, lowercases it, and looks for that text within each entry name without requiring a case-sensitive match. A partial name can therefore be more useful than trying to remember the entire label.

For category browsing, select one of the recognized categories:

Check the relationship between the two filters before running the search. When a recognized, nonempty category is selected, category processing happens before query processing. In practice, the category controls the filtering branch even if text is also present. Clear the category when your purpose is to search entry names with a query instead.

Choose the result limit according to how much of the selected set you want to inspect. The optional limit defaults to 20, and a value greater than zero truncates the result to the first number of entries represented by that value. A value of zero or below does not truncate the result, so enter a positive number when shortening the output is important.

Read the returned matches
Treat the selected entries as the result of the inputs you supplied, not as a recommendation about which emoji fits your message. A query result reflects a case-insensitive substring relationship between the trimmed search text and entry names. A category result reflects the category's keyword matching, so its selection may produce a different set from a text search that appears similar.
The interaction between filters is especially important when the output does not resemble the query. A recognized category is handled first, which means adding text does not turn that request into a name search within the category. Removing the category lets the nonempty query follow the substring-matching route.
The limit describes how many entries remain visible from the resulting order when its value is positive. It does not change the matching rule, and a nonpositive value does not shorten the result. The accompanying metadata can be read alongside the selected entries to understand the search response.
Because the source is a finite built-in collection, a missing entry only describes what this tool returned for the current collection and inputs.
