The Aspect Ratio Calculator finds the simplified proportional relationship between two dimensions. Enter any positive width and height numbers, such as screen pixel values, image canvas dimensions, or video frame resolutions. The tool converts each input into a whole number and simplifies the ratio to its lowest terms by dividing both numbers by the largest number that divides them evenly. In addition to the reduced ratio format like 16:9 or 4:3, you receive a decimal ratio rounded to four decimal places, an orientation tag identifying whether the layout is landscape, portrait, or square, and matching standard format names for recognized dimensions. The calculator also computes reference dimension sets for standard proportions based on your entered height using whole-number division. Both values must be positive numbers greater than zero. If you enter a decimal smaller than 1, the value rounds down to zero and the tool displays an error.

How does the tool simplify the ratio?

The calculator converts width and height values to whole numbers and divides both numbers by the largest number that divides them evenly to obtain the smallest whole-number ratio.

What happens if I enter zero or negative numbers?

Zero or negative dimensions produce an error indication because proportional aspect ratios require positive values.

How are decimal input values handled?
