Word Frequency Analyzer

Analyze word frequency and density across text with optional stop-word filtering and rank summaries.

Run tool

Analyze word counts and identify recurring terms across any passage of writing with this online text analysis tool. Paste your article, essay, notes, or transcript to inspect keyword frequency and overall token distribution. The analyzer converts text to lowercase and extracts words formed from standard letters and apostrophes, ranking each term from highest to lowest count. You can enable or disable the built-in stop-word filter to remove common grammatical filler like articles and prepositions, helping you focus on substantive topic keywords. Adjust the top results limit between 5 and 100 to fit your desired view, with a default view of 20 terms. For each ranked word, the tool displays its absolute count, its percentage share of all extracted words rounded to two decimal places, and a visual relative bar scaled against the most frequent word. If you submit empty text, the result panel shows zero total and unique counts.

Instructions

  1. Paste or type your input into the Text box.
  2. Check Ignore Stop Words to omit common filler words, or uncheck it to count every word.
  3. Enter a Top N number between 5 and 100 to set how many leading words appear in the summary table.
  4. Run the analyzer to review the word frequency rankings, percentage densities, and relative frequency bars.

Examples

  • Pasting 'The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog' with stop words ignored ranks 'quick', 'brown', 'fox', 'jumps', 'lazy', and 'dog' with 1 count each.
  • Analyzing a product review with stop words included shows frequency counts for articles like 'the' and 'and' alongside descriptive terms.

FAQ

How are words identified in the text?

The tool converts all input characters to lowercase and extracts sequences composed of ASCII letters a through z and apostrophes. Numbers, special symbols, and punctuation marks serve as word separators.

What happens if I uncheck Ignore Stop Words?

When disabled, the analyzer includes common grammatical words such as 'the', 'is', 'at', and 'which' in both the total counts and the ranked frequency list.

What are the allowed values for Top N?

Top N accepts integers between 5 and 100. If left blank or set to zero, it defaults to 20.

How is the word percentage calculated?

The percentage shown next to each word is its count divided by the total number of extracted tokens, rounded to two decimal places.
